Greehey CCRI currently has 3 Postdoctoral positions available:

Postdoctoral Position-A, Dr. Rao's Lab

The Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute (GCCRI) at the UT Health Science Center – San Antonio is looking for an outstanding postdoctoral fellow to work in the laboratory of Dr. Manjeet Rao.

We are seeking a motivated, creative postdoctoral fellow to work on the role of epigenetic modifiers in tumor growth and metastasis. The candidate will be expected to participate in the ongoing efforts within the lab to capitalize upon high throughput screen data to identify novel epigenetic modifiers, examining their role in cancer, how they are altered within cancer and the consequences of these alterations. It is expected that the candidate will work with cancer cell lines and mouse tumor models.

The candidate must have a Ph.D. or M.D. in a relevant field preferably with less than five years of postdoctoral experience. Applicants should have excellent communication skills, and ability to conduct research independently. The ideal candidate would have experience using molecular biology, DNA and RNA isolation, Northern/Western blotting, RNA interference, establishing and using transient and stable cell clones, performing viability assays (short term and clonal assays),  and ability to implement a variety of assays as needed.  Experience in deep sequencing and bioinformatics will be considered a plus.  Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Additional information regarding the Rao lab can be found at: http://gccri.uthscsa.edu/MRao.asp

To apply, please send your CV with bibliography, description of research experience and contact information for three references to:

Postdoctoral Position-B, Dr. Shiio's Lab

Postdoctoral Position in Cancer Proteomics

The Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute (GCCRI) at the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio is looking for an outstanding postdoctoral fellow to work in the laboratory of Yuzuru Shiio, M.D., Ph.D.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates who have a strong background in molecular cell biology, particularly characterization of protein functions using cell culture, immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, and immunofluorescence, and who have high-quality research publications. Employing a combination of quantitative proteomics technology and standard molecular cell biology approaches, our laboratory works on three NIH-funded projects: 1) the biological functions of the VHL-HIF pathway, 2) secreted mediators of cellular senescence, and 3) proteins secreted from cancer cells as cancer biomarkers.  Please see the Shiio webpage at http://ccri.uthscsa.edu/YShiio.asp for further information

about our work.

The successful candidate will receive extensive training on proteomics-based discovery (protein expression profiling and protein-protein interaction screens) and follow-up of proteomic findings (molecular cell biological characterization of protein functions).

Candidates should express their interest in the position by email and should include their career goals, research experience and interests, curriculum vitae with publication record, and contact information for three references.  Please send an email of interest to shiio@uthscsa.edu for consideration.

All Postdoctoral appointments are designated as security sensitive positions. The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.

Postdoctoral Position-C, Dr. Pertsemlidis' Lab

The Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute (GCCRI) at the UT Health Science Center – San Antonio is looking for an outstanding postdoctoral fellow to work in the laboratory of Dr. Alexander Pertsemlidis.

We are seeking a motivated, creative postdoctoral fellow to join a team effort to understand how small non-coding RNAs regulate the response of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents, through the identification of microRNAs for which expression is a biomarker of either the presence or progression of specific tumors or of the likely response of a tumor to drug treatment, and of microRNA mimics or inhibitors that can be delivered as therapeutic agents for the treatment of such tumors. Our work is supported by an R01 from the National Cancer Institute and involves collaborations with UT Southwestern Medical Center and UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. Candidates are expected to work closely with other members of the lab and coordinate with collaborators. It is expected that the candidate will work with cancer cell panels, using molecular biology, bioinformatics and multiple assays as necessary to ask questions that arise.

The candidate must have a Ph.D. or M.D. in a relevant field preferably with five years or less of postdoctoral experience. Applicants should have excellent communication skills, and ability to conduct research independently. The ideal candidate will have experience with tissue culture of primary and immortalized cells; molecular biology; cloning; RNA and DNA isolation; gel electrophoresis; Western blots; immunofluorescence; cell viability and proliferation assays; phase-contrast and fluorescent microscopy; flow cytometry and cell sorting; and the ability to implement a variety of assays as needed. Experience with xenografts and pharmacological agents in vivo is a plus. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Additional information regarding the Pertsemlidis lab can be found at: http://gccri.uthscsa.edu/APertsemlidis.asp.
