Poster Title: RNA Demethylase regulates DNA damage response
Studying novel role of m6A specific demethylase in Osteosarcoma. We found that ALKBH5 act as an oncogene in osteosarcoma and can regulate DNA damage response in osteosarcoma cells. Thus it can be targeted in future to develop therapies and also use in combination with available chemotherapy that rely on DNA damage induced cell death for eradicating tumors.

Poster Title:Doxorubicin's Effect on Adipose Tissue in Pediatric Mice
Mentor: Gregory Aune, MD, PhD
My work is studying how doxorubicin-induced damage affects metabolic health of cancer survivors. We are addressing the health needs of a group of patients who are typically seen as not having health issues. As highlighted by a growing body of epidemiological studies, surviving cancer comes with a price and the number of cancer survivors is growing. The Aune lab is trying to ascertain the physiological consequences and molecular mechanisms associated with the cardiac and metabolic deficits found in cancer survivors. This makes us forerunners in the study of the late-effects of chemotherapy exposure. We hope to find novel therapeutic solutions that can alleviate the side effects of chemotherapy and enhance the quality of life of cancer survivors.
